It’s officially Negroni Week, and bartenders and home cocktail enthusiasts around the world are making, serving and celebrating the deliciously bitter Negroni. In past years, bars all around the globe have celebrated this drink with special events for Negroni Week. This year, it’s a virtual event – the folks over Imbibe Magazine and Campari are raising funds to help bars and restaurants (and their staffs) who have been devastated by Covid-19.
One of the drinks on our new fall menu is one of my favorites this time of year – it’s a riff on the classic Negroni, first taught to me at least a decade ago by the folks at 15 Romolo in San Francisco (a great cocktail bar, and one of many really hurt by the pandemic). Instead of the typical gin, it uses our Aquavit – Private Reserve, which lends deep spice tones to balance out the bright, fruity, bitter notes of the Campari and sweet vermouth.
This week, for Flight Night, we’ll be featuring a flight of Negroni riffs too – stop by if you’re in the mood to get bitter and boozy with us.
Il Scandinavo
1 oz Aquavit – Private Reserve
1 oz Campari
1 oz Sweet Vermouth (we use Dolin)
Stir with ice; strain into chilled coupe glass. Garnish with a flamed orange peel.
