This cocktail was made for cold nights and cozy fires — originally conceived as a campfire cocktail in the fall, it’s easily transitioned into a winter night’s comfort.

Cabin Fever

2 oz Aquavit – Private Reserve or Malt Whiskey
1/2 oz  Smoked Maple Simple*
2 dashes Orange Bitters
1 dash Angostura Bitters

Stir ingredients with ice for at least 20 seconds, then strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice. Garnish with an orange swath expressed over the cocktail & dropped in the glass.

Smoked Maple Simple:

1 cup Maple Syrup
1/2 cup Water
1 bag Lapsang Souchong tea, or equivalent tea leaves

Bring water to a boil, remove from heat, then steep a bag of Lapsang Souchong tea for just a minute before removing it. After discarding the tea bag/leaves, pour the (still very hot!) liquid into a heat safe container, add the maple syrup, and then shake to incorporate. Stores in the fridge for up to 1 month.
