One of the (many) fun parts about making each season’s new curaçao is testing out cocktail recipes to make with the new spirit. Each new take on the classic style of orange liqueur has its own distinct character and flavor, so each year calls for new drinks! However, some cocktail styles are so classic they’ll work with a number of different flavor profiles.
One such cocktail is the classic Sidecar. This classic drink only calls for three ingredients – brandy, orange liqueur, and fresh lemon juice. The first NSD take on a sidecar was with Beehive Curaçao, in the Midwest Sidecar. This year we’re returning to this style with the deliciously spiced, tropical Vacation Curaçao, and taking a Beachside Ride!
Beachside Ride
1½ oz Vacation Curaçao*
1½ oz NS American Whiskey
½ oz Fresh Lemon Juice
Shake ingredients with ice, then strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice. Garnish with an orange slice or a lemon twist.
*Since our curaçaos tend to be on the dry side of a liqueur style spirit, they’re delicious for sipping on the rocks, but when mixing in cocktails we take extra care to adjust the recipe to create a balanced sipper. You can also do this at home – if you prefer your cocktails on the sweeter side, or a little drier, give it a quick taste before you shake it up, and adjust to your preference!
