The Martinez is considered by some to be the antecedent of the Martini – it’s a sweet spin on the vermouth cocktails popularized in the late 19th century. The recipe is traditionally made with an Old Tom Gin, sweet vermouth and maraschino liqueur, which makes it skew a little sweeter than the classic dry Martini, but based on the ingredients list alone one can see similarities. Similarly, this cocktail is a boozy treat, with added layers of floral & fruit – perfect for ushering in spring.
1½ oz Scofflaw Old Tom Gin
¾ oz Sweet Vermouth (we use Carpano Antica)
½ oz Luxardo Maraschino
1 dashes Orange Bitters
Stir ingredients with ice, then strain into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with a swath of orange.
