This cocktail is a layered, herbal riff on a modern classic, the Espresso Martini. We swap out the vodka for rich, savory Aquavit – Private Reserve, and adding a dash of herbal complexity Sirène Absinthe Verte to make a delicious, adventurous drink. Both aquavit and absinthe pair so well with the classic bitter & smooth notes of coffee, and in this drink they’re even better together!
Nordic Express
2 oz Aquavit — Private Reserve
½ oz Coffee Liqueur (we use Mr Black)
1 oz Cold Brew Coffee or Espresso
1/2 oz Demerara Simple
1 dash Sirène Absinthe Verte
Shake ingredients with ice, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
Fun Fact: the name Nordic Express has a double reference in it! It refers to the Nordic countries that gave us aquavit, but also makes a connection to the French absinthe, and even through a train route! Nord means north in French, and the train station that connects Paris to northern Europe, including Denmark, is known as the Gard du Nord. Caroline is very proud of this dual-referencing name, even though she’s pretty sure no one else will ever realize the second half of its hidden meaning.
