In Recipe - Distiller's Gin No. 11

Here’s the cocktail we poured for Chicago Gourmet this year, the annual festival of great food & drink held in downtown Chicago in late September. We’ve got two versions of this drink – we had hoped to pour the second recipe, but it turns out that grapefruit is out of season for two weeks in late September, and we couldn’t find fresh grapefruit anywhere! Luckily we had an amazing syrup on hand from our friends at Jo Snow that fit the bill and helped us serve the same flavor combination we planned. So, this week we give you two versions of the same drink – both are delicious, and both are options now that grapefruit is back in season.

Grapefruit pairs well with our classic gin, and a touch of rosemary took this cocktail from a summer porch sipper into a lovely autumn lawn cocktail.grapefruit-rosemary-fizz

Grapefruit Rosemary Fizz

2 oz Distiller’s Gin No. 11
1/2 oz Jo Snow Grapefruit Rosemary Syrup
3/4 oz Fresh Lemon
Club Soda

Shake first three with ice, strain into rocks glass filled with ice. Top with soda, and garnish with a sprig of fresh rosemary.

Grapefruit Rosemary Fizz #2

2 oz Distiller’s Gin No. 11
¾ oz Fresh Grapefruit Juice
½ oz Simple Syrup
Sprig of rosemary, plus more for garnish
½ oz Club Soda

Shake first four ingredients with ice (including the rosemary). Strain into cocktail glass or ice-filled rocks glass. Top with soda, garnish with a grapefruit swath of rosemary sprig. If you want more rosemary, you can infuse the rosemary into the simple syrup ahead of time, as well – that’s how we’ll be serving it at the tasting room this weekend.
