In NSD Family

As a small, family-run company, we figured it would be fun to share a bit more about our team with our friends and fans so you can get to know us better, and we came up with a questionnaire and asked everyone on the team to complete it. The questionnaire actually has 15 questions, but we’ll share 10 of our favorite answers from a new team member every month or so.

Name: Sarah MacfarquharSarah
Role: Distillery Ambassador
What year did you start at NSD: 2012

1. Where are you from?
Northern Vermont – I am a cold, dark, raisin hearted New Englander. Ayuh.

2. What city or neighborhood do you live in now?
Rogers Park, Chicago

3. What’s your favorite cocktail?
The one in front of me!

4. What’s your favorite bar tool or technique?
Hmmm, I love how my Oxo Hawthorne Strainer feels in my hand, but I’m pretty smitten with my Chef’n FreshForce Citrus Juicer. I love it so much that I have to resist buying more of them.

5. Do you have pets, and if so, what kind & what are their names?
Hermit crabs – Big Fat Crab (for obvious reasons), Picky Picky, and Not Pesto (twin brother of Pesto, may he rest in peace). I became the owner of these crabs a few years ago when my niece snuck them into my house after she had tired of the “extensive” care that they need…

6. While we’re on pets, what’s your biggest pet peeve?
When the lane lines are too faded to see on the road (major hint, City of Chicago, get it together!)

7. Tell us about some of your other interests.
I love to bike, and restore vintage bicycles. I have boxes of old parts I’ve collected and there is always at least one bicycle fork hanging off a wine neck in my cellar. I also love read, hike, and dig for treasures in junk shops.

8. What’s a random fun fact about yourself that you can share?
I was Ben & Jerry’s first customer. I was a tiny, little girl, and they were scooping ice cream out of a bucket. I got a balloon and they had a player piano. I wasn’t a huge ice cream lover, and they weren’t yet “Ben & Jerry’s”, so the player piano was the most exciting part of the experience for me.

9. Best vacation you’ve ever taken, and why it was the best?
All of my vacations have involved visiting family, but my family visits take me to Vermont (for maple syrup & beer), Scotland (for Haggis & whisky), the French Alps (for fondue & rosé), and Central Wisconsin (for cheese & bacon)

10. Favorite quote of all time?
“That’s what she said” is the quote I joyfully employ the most.
