The Muddled Mary

tomatoes - Aug 2014Well, it’s finally tomato season, and we have a cocktail that will knock your socks off! It has bright, straight from the garden flavors that we love, and it’s an elegant way to supplement your daily fruit and veg intake.

Any type of small tomatoes work well here. You  may need to adjust the lemon juice and simple syrup a bit depending on your tomatoes. We are using mostly yellow pear tomatoes right now, they’re delicious and cute!

Muddled Mary

1¾ oz Aquavit Private Reserve (can also be made with Gin or Vodka)
½ oz Fresh Lemon Juice
½ oz Simple Syrup
4 to 5 Cherry Tomatoes or Equivalent
Fresh Herbs (we used purple basil, Cuban oregano, and rosemary – more on our herb garden here)

Cut tomatoes into wedges and muddle the wedges with a sprig of each herb you’re using and the simple syrup. Add Aquavit and lemon, then shake with ice. Fine strain (to remove seeds and skins) into a chilled coupe glass, and garnish with a sprig of one of the herbs, or an additional cherry tomato on the rim.

Enjoy!
