In Mighty Gin Recipes

We’re going back to a classic this week.

We wrote about the Strawberry Basil Smash earlier this summer, and we often feature a Smash on the cocktail menu in the Tasting Room. A member of the Julep family of cocktails, the Smash gets its name from the act of bruising the mint. The classic version of this cocktail is fresh, easy to make, and a nice “palate cleanser” as we move from the heat of summer into early fall cocktails.

Mighty Gin is a higher-proof expression of our Distiller’s Gin No. 6 (110 proof rather than 90).  It has rich, intense aromatics and flavors from the botanicals, and is intended for mixing into cocktails. It’s wonderful in classic cocktails, and the spirit shines in this simple, but potent drink.

The Mighty Smash
2 oz North Shore Mighty GinSmash
¾ oz Simple Syrup
¾ oz Fresh Lemon Juice
4-5 Mint Leaves
Club Soda (if desired)

Muddle mint leaves and syrup in a mixing glass. Add gin and lemon, shake well with ice. Fine strain into a chilled coupe glass and garnish with a sprig of mint (fine straining takes out any mint leaves). Or, serve it as pictured – strain into a glass filled with fresh ice, and add splash of club soda. Delicious either way!
